In an intact Ninth Century Roman Empire one man is given the chance to fight one more battle to bring an end to years of civil war.

Tried for treason and sentenced to death by impaling was only the start of problems for Crastus. A coup by his loyal officers results in him advancing to the highest office in the Empire. One he absolutely didn't want, but in Rome, there is no such thing as abdication.
